About

What is physiatry?

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), also known as Physiatry, is a branch of medicine that tackles obstacles to therapy and advances patients towards functional goals.

The discipline

A doctor whose specialty is function

Most specialties own an organ system. Physiatry owns what the patient can do. A physiatrist looks at the whole picture — pain, mobility, medication, cognition, motivation — and asks a single question: what is standing between this person and their next functional milestone?

In a skilled nursing facility that question has a very concrete answer most days. Uncontrolled pain that makes therapy unbearable. A medication regimen that leaves a patient too sedated to participate. A balance deficit nobody has formally assessed. Physiatry exists to find those blockers and remove them.

SNFs: what's in it for you?

Three things you can measure

Decreased rehospitalizations

Proactive oversight that catches deterioration before it becomes a transfer back to the hospital.

Specialized pain management program

Injections, non-opioid strategies and a structured weaning plan, run by clinicians who do this every day.

Increased patient satisfaction

Patients who hurt less and progress faster rate their stay higher. So do their families.

At no cost to the facility and without any impact on facility billing.

Efficiency. Compassion. Impact.

The three things every engagement is judged against.

What we bring

Five changes on day one

  • Decrease fall risk and lower hospital readmission rates
  • Increase patient satisfaction
  • Upload all diagnoses and ICD-10 codes directly into PCC/Matrix for full charge capture
  • Effectively manage and wean pain control medication
  • Collaborate with existing facility teams at no cost
Core values

How we work

01

Efficiency

Enhanced capabilities and improved coding accuracy for reimbursement — the clinical work and the documentation move together.

02

Compassion

Quality care through a holistic approach to the patient, not a checklist applied to a chart.

03

Impact

Better therapy outcomes and higher patient satisfaction — the two numbers your facility is actually judged on.

Let the data do the talking

At no cost to your facility

Many studies have shown that having a physiatry presence in your facility decreases fall risk, lowers hospital readmission rates, and increases patient satisfaction.

By bringing in a physiatry program, we collaborate with your existing team at no cost to you. Our billing process is separate from that of the facility because we bill as medical consultants, so it does not impact SNF billing. All diagnoses and ICD-10 codes are uploaded directly into PCC/Matrix, ensuring full charge capture for the facility.

Separate billing

We bill as medical consultants. Your revenue cycle is untouched.

Full charge capture

Diagnoses and ICD-10 codes land in PCC/Matrix as we document.

Highest oversight

Medical oversight maintained on every procedure and treatment we run.

Next-level rehab

Our teams collaborate with therapists and SNF physicians on shared goals.

In their own words

What people say our clinicians actually did

Patients, therapists, nurses and administrators, on the difference an American Physiatry team member made.

…Teaching me and my brother about our dad's rehab goals and challenges…

From a patient's family

…Constantly monitoring therapy progress, functional goals and ways to make therapy more effective for my patient…

From a therapist

…Giving my mom joint injections as needed, like in her knees, shoulders, wrists, and ankles…

From a patient's family

…By joining family conferences and care plan meetings to give input…

From a nurse

…Enhancing clinical documentation, which supports therapy, audits, surveys, and boosts CMI…

From an administrator

…Giving me trigger point injections to ease my pain and cut down on the painkillers…

From a patient

…Served as a liaison between the orthopedic surgeon, therapists, nurses, and patient…

From a nurse

…Handling my pain meds, and tapering them off as I got better…
